Biographical Information

Peter Maestrales peaked at AA in 8 minor league seasons and also played in the Olympics. He played every position except catcher during his versatile career.

Maestrales had hit .315 with an America East Conference-leading five triples as a senior in 2001, making All-Conference at third base. Undrafted, he was signed by the San Francisco Giants. He spent the summer with the AZL Giants (.255/.317/.351 in 26 G) and Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (.258/.300/.409 in 19 G). In 2002, Peter hit .273/.307/.406 for Salem-Keizer.

Let go by San Fran, the Floridian went on to the independent leagues. In 2003, he hit .234/.316/.371 for the Newark Bears and was 3 for 16 for the Atlantic City Surf. For the Greek national team in the 2003 European Championship, he batted .215/.382/.357 with a team-high 11 runs in 8 games but also six errors afield. He fielded only .760 at third base. On the other hand, he led the tournament in runs (2 ahead of Sharnol Adriana) and steals (7 for 7) and tied Adriana, Seth La Fera and Martin Veselý for 4th in walks, two behind leader Claudio Liverziani. He was 1 for 3 with a walk and an error in the Gold Medal game loss to the Netherlands.

In 2004, Maestrales hit .263/.369/.426 with 11 steals in 14 tries for Newark. Back with Greece for the 2004 Olympics, he batted .313/.450/.500 as a 3B-OF though he fielded only .769. In Greece's lone win of the Athens Games, 12-7 over Italy, Peter reached base in 4 of 5 plate appearances out of the leadoff slot and scored a run though he did make two errors as well.

Maestrales was back in Organized Baseball in 2005 and had a great year between the Delmarva Shorebirds (.303/.426/.528), Burlington Bees (.316/.435/.408) and High Desert Mavericks (.333/.447/.533) for a composite batting line of .319/.437/.516 with 35 doubles, 7 triples, 15 homers, 114 runs, 96 walks and 15 steals in 23 tries. He was second in all of the affiliated minors in runs scored behind only Andy Green. He had begun the year with the Baltimore Orioles chain before being traded to the Kansas City Royals for Eli Marrero and cash considerations. Maestrales was then drafted by the San Diego Padres in the AAA phase of the 2005 Rule V Draft, however he ended up back in the Orioles chain in 2006.

In 2006, Peter hit .285/.401/.424 for the Frederick Keys and .278/.350/.333 for the Bowie Baysox. He drew 72 walks and scored 73 runs. The next year, he batted only .237/.339/.326 for Frederick and .217/.280/.348 for Bowie. He also took a loss on the mound, allowing 3 runs in two innings. It was the 4th pitching appearance of his minor league career.

Maestrales wrapped up in 2008 with the St. Louis Cardinals' Springfield Cardinals (2 for 8) and the independent Long Island Ducks (.221/.315/.300).
