Biographical information[edit]

Pete Alborano was a minor league outfielder who played from 1986 to 1992 in the Kansas City Royals and Philadelphia Phillies systems. He spent significant time at AA but never advanced beyond that level.

He was drafted by the Royals in the 29th round of the 1986 amateur draft, was signed by scout Jim Moran and he began his professional career that very year. He spent 1986 with the GCL Royals, hitting .277/.386/.350 in 45 games. In 1987, he hit .294/~.439/.365 in 30 games (85 at-bats) with the Eugene Emeralds, and in 1988 he hit .305/.373/.410 in 69 games for the Virginia Generals. Had he qualified, he would have tied Derrick May for 5th in the Carolina League in average.

He split the 1989 season between the Baseball City Royals (77 games, .337/.383/.411 batting line) and the Memphis Chicks (15 games, .250 average), hitting a combined .322 in 92 games. Had he qualified, he would have beaten Andy Mota for the Florida State League lead in average.

His average dropped 67 points in 1990, as he hit only .255/.334/.317 in 81 games for the Chicks. He hit .257/.327/.306 in 51 games for Memphis in 1991. Alborano wound up in the Phillies organization for the 1992 season. He hit .232/.276/.273 in 52 games for the Reading Phillies.

In his seven-year minor league career, Alborano hit .282/.356/.356 in 420 games.

His father, Pete Alborano, Sr., played in the minors in the 1950s and later served as head coach at Brooklyn College.
