Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Paul Wachtel had a cup of coffee in the majors in 1917, appearing in a pair of games for the Brooklyn Robins. He spent 13 seasons in the Texas League, primarily with the Fort Worth Panthers. He won at least 20 games six times in the Texas League and is the circuit's career leader with 231 wins.
He was a spitballer, but since he was not on a major league roster in 1920 where the pitcher relying on the pitch were grandfathered, he had to pitch the remainder of his career in the minor leagues. He finally hung up his spikes after the 1930 as the last legal spitballer in the minors.
