Biographical Information[edit]

Patrick Horan, born in Ireland, pitched 13 games for the 1884 Union Association team that was in Chicago/Pittsburgh. Of the 92 starts the team had, Horan had 10 of them, third highest on the team. He was also a position player, appearing 10 times in the outfield.

Patrick's birthdate is unknown, as is the exact location of his birth in Ireland. He and Shags Horan are the only two big leaguers (through 2019) with the last name Horan, although in 1884 there was also a minor league catcher named John Horan playing at the same time as Patrick Horan.

On June 7, 1884, Horan pitched in the first professional game ever held in Kansas City, MO. Source: Sporting Life, June 18, 1884.
