Biographical Information

Otto Williams was in the majors for three years, getting 600 plate appearances. He was a weak hitter who earned his keep in the field, playing multiple positions. He was at shortstop more than any other one position. He also had 14 years in the minors, primarily as a second baseman, with seven of his minor league seasons spent with the Indianapolis Indians.

After his playing career ended, Williams spent time as a coach with the Detroit Tigers (1925), St. Louis Browns (1926 and 1927), and Cincinnati Reds (1930). He was a minor league manager for part of 1927 and in 1928.

The SABR biography of Rollie Stiles says Stiles gave Otto a lot of credit for teaching him how to pitch when Otto managed the Muskogee Chiefs, of which Rollie was a team member, in 1928.

His New York Times obituary (03-20-37) indicates he moved to Omaha, NE after baseball. He scouted for the Cincinnati Reds and served at least a year as a Creighton University athletic trainer.
