Team History[edit]

Formed in 2004 as founding members of the Florida Collegiate Summer League, the Orlando Shockers played their home games minutes from downtown Orlando in Hershiser Field. The team was joined by the Orlando Hammers who shared the stadium. The Shockers suffered funding constraints and were forced to pull up roots due to lack of local financing following the 2006 season.

The Shockers operated in the model of a typical Summer Collegiate Baseball team: recruiting players, playing nightly before fans in stadiums, using wood bats and minor league specification equipment and experiencing road trips between games. Like all other summer collegiate players, the Orlando Shockers were unpaid in order to maintain their NCAA eligibility, and lived with host families in the same manner as Single A and Independent League players.

The Orlando Shockers relocated to Leesburg, FL following the 2006 season and adopted the Leesburg Lightning moniker for 2007.
