From 1958 to part of 1965, he played in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, was briefly in the Washington Senators organization in 1965, moved to the 1966 Detroit Tigers and then was in the California Angels organization from 1967 to most of 1969, when he came to the New York Mets' AAA team, the Tidewater Tides. In 1971 he went to Mexico to play.
In the majors, Orlando was a catcher and pinch-hitter, while in the minors he played catcher and third base.
His best year with the bat in the majors was 1968, the heart of the second dead ball era when averages were very low. In 36 plate appearances, Orlando hit .290 with a .389 OBP. In terms of the most plate appearances in a year, Orlando had 148 of them with the 1966 Tigers, a team for which he hit .254 with 5 home runs.
A biography states that he was playing ball in Cuba at age 19. He played winter ball in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. [1]
