Southpaw Orlando Castro peaked at AA.

He signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates in July 2009, the team's first amateur signing out of Honduras. He is a cousin of Mariano Gomez. He played for the Honduran national team in the 2010 Central American Games. He debuted with the VSL Pirates with a scoreless inning on May 17, 2010. He was excellent for them at 6-0, 1.17. He tied for 4th in the Venezuelan Summer League in wins and would have led in ERA had he qualified. In 2011, he pitched for the GCL Pirates (2-0, 0.72), State College Spikes (2-0, 4.76) and West Virginia Power (1-0, 4.11). He had a 11-0 record after two years as a pro.

Castro pitched in 2012 for State College (1-0, 0 R in 6 2/3 IP) and West Virginia (4-6, Sv, 4.76). He had a solid 2013 for West Virginia (7-4, 1.93) and the Bradenton Marauders (2-3, Sv, 4.32). He walked only 17 in 108 innings. He tied for third in the Pirates chain, behind Casey Sadler and Kris Johnson. In 2014, he pitched for Bradenton (6-4, 3.17) and the Altoona Curve (10 R in 8 IP), again showing excellent control (15 BB in 101 2/3 IP). He ended his pro career at 31-17, 2.99 with 3 saves in 97 games (52 starts). In 372 IP, he allowed 340 hits and 79 walks while striking out 282.
