Biographical Information[edit]
Orlando Albelo was on the first Cuban national team of the Fidel Castro era, going 0-1 at the 1959 Pan American Games on the mound and collecting two hits in six at-bats. [1] He later played four seasons in the Cuban Serie Nacional. In 1962, he went 0-3 with a 4.29 ERA for the Occidentales. He later played for Matanzas and Henequeneros in the late 1960s and 1970, finishing his pitching career with a 10-16, 3.16 record. He struck out 160 in 242 1/3 IP and walked 115 while allowing 233 hits. He also regularly played the outfield and batted .231/.333/.340 in 165 games, scoring 40 runs and driving in 58 while homering 7 times and drawing 61 walks. He fielded .937. [2]
