In 1974 the Orangeburg Dodgers replaced the Orangeburg Cardinals in the Western Carolinas League. Bart Shirley managed the team, which finished 63-71, 4th in the 6-team league. They drew 22,908 fans, 5th place. The best player to emerge from the team was 3B Pedro Guerrero, who hit just .145/~.242/.164 in 19 games and fielded .868. The lone All-Star was 3B Jose Del Moral, who hit .319/~.362/.494. The team had the #5 through 7 players in the batting race - 1B-OF Claude Westmoreland, 2B-OF-3B Leon Wood and SS-2B Marvin Webb in order. Westmoreland (.296/~.387/.523, 21 HR) led the league in total bases (231), Wood hit .291/~.409/.447 and Webb (.287/~.330/.416) led the circuit with 32 doubles. The team only existed for that single season.
