Biographical Information[edit]

Omir Santos was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 21st round of the 2001 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Dave Jorn and made his pro debut that summer. He spent parts of five seasons in the major leagues with the Baltimore Orioles (2008), New York Mets (2009), Detroit Tigers (2011 - 2012), and Cleveland Indians (2013). For the major league portion of his career, Santos hit .248/.280/.363 while appearing in 122 games. Santos played his final season in 2014 in the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league system.

After his playing career ended, Santos joined the Cleveland Indians organization as a coach and manager. In 2015 he was the catching instructor for the Columbus Clippers and returned to the Clippers in 2016 as a bench coach. He followed that with bench coach appointments with the Akron RubberDucks in 2017 and the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in 2018-2019. Santos was scheduled to become the manager of the DSL Indians 1 in 2020 before COVID-19 shut down the minor league season. He then became a manager with the DSL Indians Blue in 2021, Lynchburg Hillcats in 2022 and Lake County Captains in 2023-2024.
