Biographical Information[edit]

Nino Giarratano is a college coach.

Giarratano was head coach at Trinidad State Junior College from 1989-1994, going 233-86 and taking his team to the junior college World Series five times. He was named National Junior College Coach of the Year by Collegiate Baseball three times in this period. In 1995-1996, he went 77-36 as head coach at Yavapai Community College. He also was head coach at La Veta High School at some point.

Nino was then an assistant coach for two years at Arizona State University in 1997-1998. They went to the 1998 College World Series, finishing second in the nation.

In 1999, Giarratano became head coach at the University of San Francisco. The school has set several season records under his guidance. His school finished first in the West Coast Conference in 2006 when they set a school record of 39 wins. He was named the WCC Coach of the Year for the second season in a row. One of the team's players, Aaron Poreda, would go on to be the first first-round draftee in school annals. Giarratano was fired in March 2022 after a lawsuit was filed against him and USF alleging "persistent psychological abuse and repeated inappropriate sexual conduct". Assistant coah Troy Nakamura had been fired in January after an internal investigation, but Giarratano allowed Nakamura access to baseball operations as late as early March, leading the USF AD to "take actions to make changes in baseball program leadership." Giarratano coached for Team USA in the 2008 World University Championship, which they won.
