Ninety Six, SC

From BR Bullpen

Ninety Six is a small town in western South Carolina, located 5 miles west of Greenwood, SC. The town, founded in the 18th century as a trading post with the Cherokee Indians, moved two miles from its original site in the mid-19th century in order to be located on the railway; the original town is now a national historical site. The name Ninety Six is meant to express the distance in miles from the main Cherokee settlement.

Cal Drummond and Ryne Slack were born here and Bill Voiselle lived here - and wore number 96 in tribute to the town. Ninety Six High School is here.
