Biographical Information[edit]
Niklas Lidén played for the Sundsvall Mosquitoes in Sweden. He was on the Swedish national team for the 1994 Baseball World Cup; at age 16, he was their youngest player, over a year younger than Jonas Degerstedt. He still saw frequent action, beginning with a relief appearance against Puerto Rico. He was 0-1 with a 11.05 ERA in four outings and was 1 for 1 at the plate with a RBI. He tied Magnus Höglund for the team lead in pitching appearances, tied for 5th in the Cup altogether. A highlight was a hitless, shutout inning against Team USA, in which he faced Casey Blake and Mark Bellhorn. He took the loss to Japan.
In the 1995 European Championship, he allowed three runs (two earned) in 2 2/3 IP.
