Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Nguyen Boulet has played in Cuba, Spain and Belgium.

Boulet hit .302/.361/.379 in 6 seasons for Matanzas in the Cuban Serie Nacional and fielded .969; he hit 9 triples in 1999-2000 to lead the league. He went to Europe in 2009 and played for the Mortsel Stars of the Belgian First Division; he hit .350/.406/.524 with 35 runs, 42 RBI and 18 steals in 18 tries. He also pitched, going 8-2 with a 2.67 ERA and striking out 84 in 97 2/3 IP (though he walked 65). He was 10th in the league in average, 9th in slugging, tied Dennis Ribbens for 7th in runs, 4th in hits (50), led in RBI (by 10), was 6th in total bases (75), placed 5th in steals, was 6th in ERA, tied for 4th in wins, was second in walks and tied for 8th in strikeouts.

He then signed with Spain's Tenerife Marlins. In 2010, he hit .407/.488/.630 with 32 runs and 26 RBI in 29 games. He was 5th in average (between Richard Montiel and Marc Carrillo), 6th in slugging (between Carrillo and Oscar Angulo) and 7th in OBP (between Emmanuel Febles and Orlando Díaz). He was 4 for 19 with a double, run and two RBI in the 2010 European Cup. With the Spanish season ending earlier than most, he ended the year back with Mortsel (14 for 31, 6 2B, 3 3B; 1-1, 4.81).

In 2011, Nguyen hit .350/.438/.431 for the Stars, with 29 RBI in 30 games and stealing in all 12 attempts. He was 5-6 with a 4.04 ERA. He did not make the top 10 in any key offensive departments. During 2012, Papi was 3-3 with a 3.30 ERA and hit .276/.418/.333, a big drop-off from his first four Belgian campaigns. He rebounded to bat .367/.445/.523 with 28 runs and 32 RBI in 35 games, while going 4-4 with a 4.54 ERA as a pitcher. He was 8th in average.
