Biographical Information[edit]
Nelson Robledo played eight seasons in the minors. He is the brother of Nilson Robledo, a former minor leaguer who was the Colorado bullpen catcher from 2000-2002.
Nelson Robledo signed with the Colorado Rockies in 2000. In 2001, he hit .244/.333/.260 for the DSL Rockies. The next year, he batted .231/.327/.261 for the Casper Rockies. Back in Casper in 2003, he hit .241/.305/.340.
Still under 20 entering 2004, he batted .212/.274/.297 for the Tri-City Dust Devils and led the Northwest League's catchers. He was 0 for 13 in a brief stay with the Visalia Oaks. In 2005, Robledo hit .239/.328/.326 as the most-used backstop on the Asheville Tourists.
Nelson battled injuries to his right hand and left ankle in 2006 and produced at a .208/.272/.297 clip. He did field .998, tying Cody Clark for the lead among South Atlantic League catchers. In 2007, Robledo had his best season yet, hitting .278/.337/.328 for the Modesto Nuts. He made Panama's national team for the 2007 Baseball World Cup and was their regular catcher, going 2 for 9.
Backing up Michael McKenry for the 2008 Nuts, he slumped to .186/.272/.224 in his last season in the minors. He coached for Panama in the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers then suited up for them again in the 2013 Bolivarian Games, going 4 for 9 with two walks, a hit-by-pitch, run and three RBI as the backup to David González as catcher on the Gold Medalists.
