Biographical Information[edit]

1995 Pacific #41 Nate Minchey

Nate Minchey pitched for four seasons in the major leagues in the mid 1990s, going 3-7. Afterwards, he played several seasons in Japan. In 2001, he led the Japanese Pacific League in ERA.

He was originally a second-round pick by the Montreal Expos in the 1987 amateur draft, but was one of three players traded to the Atlanta Braves on July 2, 1989 in return for veteran pitcher Zane Smith (the others were OF Kevin Dean and P Sergio Valdez). In 1992, he was the top pitcher for the minor league Greenville Braves, who posted a record of 100-43. Minchey went 13-6. He was second in the league in ERA with a 2.30. He did not pitch in the majors for Atlanta, either, as he was one of two prospects traded to the Boston Red Sox for Jeff Reardon on August 30, 1992.

He made his major league debut with the Red Sox at the end of the 1993 season, but in his four years in the majors, he never appeared in more than six games or pitched more than 33 innings. In addition to the Red Sox, he pitched two games for the Colorado Rockies in 1997.

In 2007, Minchey began the job of overseeing scouting in Japan for the Cleveland Indians.
