Nate Rodriquez hit .284 for Cal State Fullerton in 1992. Their starting shortstop, he was flanked by future big leaguers Phil Nevin (3B) and Steve Sisco (2B). He was 7 for 16 in the 1992 College World Series, where Fullerton made the finale before falling (he was 0 for 2 with a run in the 3-2 loss to Pat Ahearne and Pepperdine). He was named the CWS All-Tournament shortstop. He hit .280 in 1993 and the Philadelphia Phillies chose him in the 21st round of the 1993 amateur draft. Assigned to the Martinsville Phillies, he batted .245/.301/.250 and fielded .924 at second, his main position. That was the entirety of his pro career.
