Biographical Information[edit]
Nat Ballenberg played college ball at Haverford College where he earned a degree in economics in 2007. He later earned a master's degree in sports leadership from Northeastern University.
Following graduation, Ballenberg pitched for the Ra'anana Express in the 2007 Israel Baseball League. This was the first year of the IBL so things were a bit chaotic at times. He appeared for the Baldham Boars in the German minor leagues in 2009. Ballenberg also worked as a pitching coach for the Linden High School Tigers in 2007-2008.
In August 2010 Ballenberg returned to his alma mater as assistant coach and stayed there through the 2019 season. His pitchers helped the Fords win conference championships in 2012, 2014, and 2016. Two of his pitchers were drafted by major league organizations. In addition to coaching, Ballenberg was appointed Haverford’s first Assistant Fitness Center Director and the Strength & Conditioning Coach for Haverford athletics following the conclusion of the 2016-17 academic year. Ballenberg had been doing this work on a volunteer basis since 2014.
Ballenberg began his transition to professional coaching on a temporary basis when he worked as the pitching coach for the AZL Brewers during the summer of 2017. He completed the transition in 2019 when he joined the Fort Myers Miracle as a coach after the Haverford season ended. He was scheduled to be one of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos pitching coaches in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19. Ballenberg accepted a new role with the Minnesota Twins in 2021 as their Special Projects Pitching Coordinator, the kind of title that doesn't tell you much about what the person actually does. He returned to this role in 2022.
