Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Néstor Chávez pitched two big league games with the San Francisco Giants as a 20 year old in 1967. He tossed four innings of scoreless relief to earn his lone victory on September 30 against the Philadelphia Phillies. He missed time in the minors the following season with injuries. But things were looking up when he was on his way to join the Phoenix Giants for the 1969 season. Tragically, the commercial airliner he was on crashed, killing 155 people, including another player, Carlos Santeliz, and executive Antonio Herrera Gutiérrez.
