Biographical Information[edit]

Montana DuRapau made his major league debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2019, appearing in 14 games, mostly in relief. Seven of the 18 earned runs that he gave up occurred in his last two appearances. During one of those games, though, he got his first major league hit. He had 22 strikeouts in the 17 1/3 innings he pitched.

He is the only major leaguer (through 2019) ever to have the name Montana as a first or last name, and the same is true for the name DuRapau. He was born in Deltona, FL, near Orlando, FL. He attended high school in his home town (Nick Regilio had previously gone to Deltona High School), and went to college nearby at Bethune-Cookman University, out of which several other major leaguers have come in the past 20 years. He was drafted in the 32nd round of the 2014 Amateur Draft by the Pirates; the scout was Nick Presto.

Except for 2018, he has had consistently good ERA's in the minors. Even with the 2018 year, his overall minor league ERA through 2019 has been 2.51 with a WHIP of 0.932.
