Mitsuru Sakamoto is a former minor league baseball outfielder who played in the Colorado Rockies organization in 2003 and 2004. Prior to playing professionally, he attended Arizona Western College. During the 2002 collegiate season, he hit .409 in 164 at-bats.
When he was drafted by the Rockies in the 24th round of the 2002 amateur draft, he became the first Japanese player ever taken in the amateur draft. Unfortunately, he was injured with a torn labrum in 2002 an did not make his professional debut until 2003. In 2003, he played for the Tri-City Dust Devils (16 games) and Colorado Springs Sky Sox (one game), hitting a combined .193 in 57 at-bats. In 2004, he played for the Dust Devils (31 games) and Casper Rockies (seven games), hitting a combined .223 in 130 at-bats.
Overall, he hit .214 in 187 minor league at-bats.
