Biographical Information[edit]

Mitch Mustain was a star athlete in high school in Springdale, AR. He was recruited to play quarterback for the University of Arkansas, but after being the starting QB for most of his freshman season in 2006, going 8-0, before being abruptly benched. Following that season, he decided to transfer to the University of Southern California. He played there in 2008 and 2010 after being forced to sit out one year under the NCAA transfer rules at the time (in 2009, he was the third-stringer and did not appear in any games). However, he was was never the starter in the two years in which he played and was not drafted by an NFL team after his senior season.

He still played football professionally, going to the Canadian Football League with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2011 but did not make the team.

In 2012, he attempted a comeback as a baseball pitcher and even though he had not played the game at a high level for eight years by that time, as he had not played any baseball in college, impressed scouts with his athleticism and ability to throw a fastball at 90 mph. He was signed as an amateur free agent by the Chicago White Sox on February 10th in a move that attracted some press attention given he still had some degree of name recognition from his college football days. He played one season in the minors, starting off with the Bristol White Sox of the Appalachian League and ending up with the Kannapolis Intimidators of the South Atlantic League. In 19 appearances, all in relief, between the two teams, he went 2-2, 4.63 with 1 save, with 12 strikeouts against 14 walks in 23 1/3 innings. He was let go after the season.

Following his short baseball career, he returned to football, playing in the Arena Football League in 2013 and 2014
