Biographical Information[edit]

Minoru Kasamatsu was a pitcher in the first three decades of Japanese professional baseball.

He debuted in the first Japanese Professional Baseball League season, in the spring of 1937. He was 7-9 with a 2.71 ERA for Hankyu, holding opponents to a .218 average but walking 86 in 156 innings and throwing a league-worst five wild pitches. He fell to 3-7, 5.43 in the fall season, with 52 walks in 69 2/3 IP and a .290 opponent average. He did not play from 1938-1940 then returned in 1941 to go 11-11 with a 1.96 ERA, .182 opponent average, no homers and 141 walks in 234 innings.

In 1942, Kasamatsu posted a 17-17, 1.82 record with a .216 opponent average in 311 2/3 IP. He did not make the top 10 in the league in ERA in a pitcher-friendly league. He was 9-13 with a 2.52 ERA in 1943 and followed with a 7-5, 1.78 season in 1944. He was third in ERA behind Tadashi Wakabayashi and Hideo Fujimoto. There was no season in 1945 due to World War II.

The Osaka native was 8-8 with a 3.55 ERA in 1946 then did not pitch for the next three years. He had a three-year stint with the Hiroshima Carp to end his career. He was 2-8 with a 5.00 ERA and .302 opponent average in Hiroshima's first season, 1950 then was 5-15 with a 4.50 ERA in 1951. He had a 1-3, 4.67 record and .316 opponent average in 1952, his last campaign.

Overall, Minoru was 70-96 with a 2.96 ERA, .237 average and 1.33 WHIP in 1,513 2/3 IP and 270 games (175 starts).
