Minneapolis Loons

The Minneapolis Loons were originally members of the North Central League. They went 39-33 in their first season (1994), finishing one game behind the Brainerd Bears. The team's biggest names were Juan Berenguer and Kerry Ligtenberg - Berenguer was the team's top hurler, going 3-1 with a 1.48 ERA and 21 saves. They were managed in 1994 by former big-league catcher and Minnesota native Greg Olson.

In 1995 the team switched to the Prairie League, where they again finished second in their division, going 43-26, 13 games behind the Aberdeen Pheasants in the American Division. Ligtenberg went 11-2 with a 2.73 ERA and Berenguer again was dazzling, going 2-3 with a 0.82 ERA, 2 walks to 32 K in 33 innings and 9 saves. Berenguer was named the league's top reliever.

The team did not return in 1996.
