Biographical Information[edit]
Prior to his major-league career, Kerry Ligtenberg pitched for the Minneapolis Loons in the new independent North Central League and Prairie League. As a starting pitcher, he posted a 5-5 won-loss record with a 3.31 ERA in 1994, and in 1995 he went 11-2 with a 2.73 ERA. These were the only two seasons of existence for the Minneapolis Loons club, and in January 1996 Ligtenberg was purchased by the Atlanta Braves.
In the spring of 1995, he served briefly as a replacement player for the Seattle Mariners, effectively crossing the players' picket line in the 1994 strike. As a result, he was never allowed to join the MLBPA.
Ligtenberg was head coach of Park High School (Cottage Grove) in 2011-2012. He was then pitching coach of the St. Paul Saints in 2013.
