Biographical Information[edit]
Ming-Yung Hsieh is a member of the Taiwan Baseball Hall of Fame.
He was on the Taiwanese national team that won Silver in the 1969 Asian Championship, their best in 14 years. They fell to last in the 1971 Asian Championship. He was with Taiwan for the 1972 Amateur World Series, their first Amateur World Series. He won Bronze in the 1973 Asian Championship, played in the 1973 Intercontinental Cup (the first Intercontinental Cup) and then capped a busy year with the 1973 FEMBA Amateur World Series. He led that event in both steals (11) and triples (2). He was 8th in average (.376). The Taiwan Baseball Wiki lists him as an All-Star outfielder in the 1972 and 1973 Amateur World Series but the Ecured site lists Armando Capiró, Wilfredo Sánchez and Luis Mercado as the outfielders in 1972 (they do not list the 1973 team).
Hsieh also played in the 1974 Amateur World Series, 1975 Asian Championship and 1977 Intercontinental Cup. He then coached for the country in the 1987 Asian Championship, winning Gold. He managed the team to Bronze in the 1993 Asian Championship and also in the 1994 Baseball World Cup for a 4th decade in international tournaments. He later had administrative roles with the Chinese Taipei Baseball Association and the Taiwan Baseball Hall of Fame. In 2021, he was inducted into the Taiwan Baseball Hall of Fame alongside Sheng-San Tu.
