Biographical Information[edit]
Mike Teahen was a catcher for Team Canada from 1973-1979. In the 1978 Amateur World Series, he hit .250/.256/.444 with a team-high 2 HR and 9 RBI in 10 games. He struggled defensively, though, with 3 passed balls and 5 errors in 8 games behind the plate, allowing 13 steals in 17 tries. He also made 4 errors in 10 chances at third base. He tied for 8th in the tourney in homers and was one of the top offensive catchers in the Series. He also played for Canada in the 1973 Amateur World Series, 1974 Amateur World Series, 1975 Pan American Games and 1979 Pan American Games.
His son Mark Teahen was born in the USA but maintained Canadian citizenship and became a second-generation member of Team Canada in the 2009 World Baseball Classic. Another son, Matt Teahen, also played pro baseball.
