Biographical Information[edit]
Third baseman Mike Sakovich played four seasons in the St. Louis Cardinals organization from 1939 to 1942 (hitting .301 overall) before serving in the military during World War II. He hit .309 and slugged .442 between two stops in 1939 but fielded only .873 at third base.
In 1940, Sakovich batted .314 and slugged .462 for the Union City Greyhounds, with 16 triples and fielded .891 at the hot corner. He spent 1941 with the Johnson City Cardinals, hitting .332/?/.483 with 11 triples and fielding .868 at third. For the second straight year, he failed to crack the top 10 in average in a high-average league.
Sakovich ended his career in 1942 with two class B clubs, hitting only .218 and slugging .299 while again fielding under .900.
After baseball, he was a coal mine supervisor and inspector for many years.
