Biographical Information[edit]

Mike Gedman turned pro in 2011. He comes from an athletic family. His father Rich Gedman played in the majors, his mother Sherry threw two no-hitters for UConn's softball team and his brother Matt Gedman also turned pro in 2011.

Mike had a 0-4, 6.87 record as a freshman at Le Moyne and was 4 for 34 at the plate. Transferring to UMass in 2008, he was even worse (40.50 ERA in 2/3 IP, 4 for 26 offensively). He made big strides his junior year, hitting .345 and slugging .580 to lead UMass in both departments. He also led the staff with a 2.42 ERA while saving five games (5th in the Atlantic-10 Conference). As a senior, he hit well (.314/.399/.519, .001 ahead of brother Matt, a teammate) but struggled on the mound (1-4, 7.02, .352 opponent average). Undrafted, he signed with the Worcester Tornadoes for 2011. He was 2-1 with a 5.71 ERA in 27 games for the club that summer.
