Biographical Information[edit]

Relief pitcher Mike Cook played in the Detroit Tigers system from 1967 to 1971, never advancing beyond Double-A.

Cook began his professional career with the Single-A Statesville Tigers, going 6-6 with a 4.44 ERA in 30 games (10 starts). The following season, 1968, he pitched for the Batavia Trojans and Lakeland Tigers, going a combined 0-9 with a 4.03 ERA in 37 games (two starts). With the Rocky Mount Leafs in 1969, Cook had perhaps the best season of his career, going 8-1 with 3 saves and a 2.12 ERA in 42 appearances. He had 73 strikeouts in 89 innings, while allowing only 67 hits. He was 9th in the Carolina League in games pitched. He pitched for the Double-A Montgomery Rebels in 1970, posting a 3-1 record with a save and a 3.41 ERA in 25 relief appearances. In 1971, his final season, Cook went 5-2 with three saves and a 3.20 ERA in 38 games (four starts). With 104 innings of work, it was the only season he pitched more than 100 innings.

Overall, Cook was 22-19 with a 3.38 ERA in 172 games (16 starts) spread over five seasons.

He later worked in the insurance industry.
