Mikael Andersson has played every position during his career in Sweden's Elitserien. He is not to be confused with contemporary and countrymate Michael Andersson.
Mikael Andersson played for Sweden in the 2003 European Championship, going 0 for 4 at the plate. In the 2004 Elitserien, Andersson hit .247/.441/.370 for Tranås and went 1-2 with a 7.65 ERA. As a catcher, he allowed 32 steals while only throwing out 4 baserunners. He was second in the league in walks, 2 behind leader Björn Johannessen.
In 2005, Andersson hit .285/.370/.371 and posted a 1-5, 6.20 record. He walked 44 in 40 2/3 IP and allowed a .307 average. In '06, he batted .301/.394/.413 for Tranås and went 2-8 with a 6.84 ERA. He led the league with 66 walks issued and also led in losses.
Mikael batted .317/.406/.402 in 2007 and was 2-5 with a 4.84 ERA. By that point, he was playing primarily first base, having turned 30 years old. In 2008, he hit .341/.428/.458 and was 4-3 with a 6.29 ERA, walking 49 in 44 1/3 IP.
Andersson was put on Sweden's preliminary 40-man roster for the 2009 Baseball World Cup.
