Biographical Information[edit]

Miguel Duarte pitched in the minor leagues and for the Mexico national team.

Duarte began his professional career with the Saraperos de Saltillo in 1997, posting a 1.69 ERA in five games. He was 0-4 with a 5.96 ERA in 25 games in 1998 and he was 4-3 with a 3.55 ERA in 1999. He collected 2 saves with a 6-1 record and a 4.13 ERA in 2000, then he went 1-2 with a 3.32 ERA and 3 saves in 2001. Duarte pitched 43 games with a 3-7 record and a 4.05 ERA in 2002, and he was 4-2 with a 4.58 ERA in 2003. In 2004, he was 4-3 with 3 saves and a 3.19 ERA. He then collected a career-high 14 saves with a 4.05 ERA in 50 relief outings in 2005, finishing 8th in the Mexican League in games pitched (50) and tying Ben Rivera and Santos Hernandez for 7th in saves. His ERA was 3.18 in 6 games in 2006 before he moved to the Diablos Rojos del Mexico. Duarte was 2-3 with a 4.46 ERA there, and he had a 7.88 ERA in 17 games with the Yaquis de Obregon in the winter (stats for prior Mexican Pacific League campaigns are unclear but it was not his first season there).

The Guadalajara native went 3-2 with a 4.26 ERA and 2 saves in 2007, and he represented Mexico in the 2007 Baseball World Cup. He faced one batter to close out the game against the champion Team USA, retiring Jayson Nix. He wound up with a 5.40 ERA in five games, allowing four runs against Japan but facing the minimum in two innings against #2 Cuba. His ERA was 6.14 in 6 games with the Mayos de Navojoa in the winter, and he also had a 3.86 ERA in 13 games for the Aguilas de Mexicali. Duarte then allowed 5 runs in 2 innings in 2008, and he pitched 45 games with a 4.62 ERA for the Guerreros de Oaxaca. He was 3-1 with a 4.23 ERA for the Aguilas in the winter, then his ERA was 5.40 in 15 games for the Vaqueros Laguna in 2009. Duarte improved to a 2.89 ERA in 23 games with 3 saves after he moved to the Piratas de Campeche, and he recorded a 3.28 ERA in 36 games for the Aguilas. Only Hugo Castellanos (38) made more appearances in the LMP that winter.

Duarte only pitched 9 games with a 2.13 ERA in 2010, and he had 2 appearances with the Aguilas in the winter. He struggled in 2011, and he pitched 17 games with a 6.14 ERA for the Piratas. He also allowed 6 runs in 4 1/3 innings for the Olmecas de Tabasco, and his ERA was 4.15 for the Aguilas in 19 games. The veteran still couldn't come back in 2012, and his ERA was 13.15 in 15 games for the Rieleros de Aguascalientes. He also allowed 6 runs in 2/3 of an inning for the Olmecas that season. Duarte was 4-3 with a 4.30 ERA for the Delfines de Ciudad del Carmen in 2013, but he allowed 22 runs in 27 2/3 innings with a 0-3 record in 2014. He pitched 17 games with a 7.41 ERA for the Sultanes de Monterrey in the same season, and his professional career ended. He had pitched in over 600 games as a pro.
