Biographical Information[edit]
Michihiro Sugawara played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 5 years.
Sugawara was signed by the Daiei Stars in 1952, and he hit .284/.323/.402 with 6 triples in his rookie year. He tied Kazuo Horii, Kozo Kawai and Bunjiro Sakamoto for 6th in triples in the Pacific League. He improved to .287/.336/.405 in 1953, and he ranked 8th in batting (between Tokuji Iida and Larry Raines). Sugawara also attended the 1953 NPB All-Star Game, and he was 0-for-2. However, he slumped to .218/.248/.293 in 1954, and he hit .235/.272/.340 in 137 games in 1955. Sugawara only played 57 games in 1956, then he announced his retirement.
Overall, Sugawara hit .252/.290/.349 with 418 hits and 21 homers in 5 seasons in the NPB.
