Biographical Information

Mike Labossiere played for Team Canada. He followed his father Gaetan Labossiere into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame.

Labossiere debuted with the Virden Oilers of the 1969 Manitoba Senior League as a SS/P but was most noted for his time as a catcher later on. He hit .260 with a team-high 13 runs in 1972. He batted .258/~.355/.364 in 1973 and .302 for Hamiota in 1975. In '76, he hit .250 followed by .292 in 1977 and .342 in 1978.

He made his debut for Canada in the 1978 Amateur World Series. While he was listed as a catcher, Ted Springenatic and Mike Teahen did all the catching for Canada. Instead, Labossiere split 2B with Ken Wiebe, backed up Dale Ramsey at DH and was part of a large corps of players taking turns in RF. He hit .167/.310/.292 and went 3-for-3 in steal attempts. He led Canada in steals and his 4 runs tied Dale Tilleman for 2nd on the squad, one behind Teahen.

Mike hit .310 in 1979, the last year for which the Western Canada Baseball History has stats (as of 7/17/2020). He was with Canada again in the 1980 Amateur World Series. He remained with Hamiota through 1989, winning MSBL MVP in 1982. He was a first-team All-Star 11 times in the Manitoba Senior Baseball League and second-team six teams, winning six titles along the play. In the MABL's 40-year All-Star anniversary team, he was named as the second-team catcher.

He was on Baseball Canada's Coaching Committee for over 15 years, writing "Getting Started in Baseball". He also was a New York Yankees scout beginning in 1987, while still an active player in Canada. In 2002, he made the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame.
