Biographical Information

Merwin Jacobson had two major league careers. In the first, in 1915 and 1916, he was a youngster who had cups of coffee with the New York Giants under manager John McGraw and the Chicago Cubs under manager Joe Tinker. In the second, in 1926 and 1927, he was past 30 and played for the Brooklyn Robins under manager Wilbert Robinson. In 1926 he was the fourth outfielder on the team and appeared in 110 games.

Jacobson is much more famous, however, as a minor leaguer. Often called "Jake", he was elected to the International League Hall of Fame in 1955, for hitting .317 over 13 seasons in that league. He was a star for the Baltimore Orioles in the early 1920s, and hit .404 in 1920.
