Biographical Information[edit]
Merle Harmon began his broadcasting career in 1949 with the Topeka Owls of the Kansas-Oklahoma-Missouri League. In 1954, he called games for the American Association Kansas City Blues. The next year he started play-by-play for the Kansas City Athletics.
In 1961, Harmon began working for ABC where he worked on the Game of the Week. Over the next ten years Harmon broadcasted for the Milwaukee Braves and Minnesota Twins.
In 1970, Harmon became the announcer for the Milwaukee Brewers later teaming up with Bob Uecker. From 1980 to 1982, he worked for NBC where he called baseball games including the 1980 World Series. Harmon worked Texas Rangers games from 1982 to 1989.
Harmon was also the owner of a chain of stores called Merle Harmon's Fan Fair which sold officially licensed sports merchandise.
