Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Melvin Adon started pitching in the San Francisco Giants organization in 2015 after having been signed as an international free agent on February 16th of that year. He went 4-0, 2.48 for the DSL Giants that year, then moved to the U.S. in 2016 with the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes of the Northwest League. He was exlusively a starting pitcher until 2018, then was transformed into a reliever after that season during a stint in the Arizona Fall League. In 2019, he pitched in both AA and AAA for the first time, going 2-6, 2.60 with 14 saves in 36 games for the Richmond Flying Squirrels of the Eastern League and 0-1, 13.94 in 12 games for the Sacramento RiverCats in the Pacific Coast League. In spite of his lack of success at that level, he pitched in the Triple-A National Championship game on September 17th, in which Sacramento defeated the Columbus Clippers, representing the International League, 4-0. He pitched in relief of Caleb Baragar and Ricardo Pinto then turned the ball over to Steven Okert who completed the job.
Adon was then one of the numerous minor leaguers whose career was upended by the COVID-19 pandemic. Although he spent the summer at the Giants' alternate training site, he did not get to pitch in game situations. After the season, he played winter ball in the Dominican League with the Toros del Este, but appeared in just one game, leaving with an injury that caused him to miss all of the 2021 season. He was non-tendered by the Giants as a result, then re-signed to a minor league deal. In 2022, he started the year on a rehabilitation assignment with the ACL Giants Orange, before making his way up to the Class A San Jose Giants and AA Richmond. He only pitched a total of 20 games and 23 2/3 innings as he tried to return to where he was when the pandemic upended his life.
