Biographical Information[edit]

Melngis Uchel was 2 for 11 with a RBI as a teenager for the Palauan national team that won Silver in the 2005 South Pacific Mini-Games. [1] In the 2011 Pacific Games, he was Palau's starting first baseman and top hitter. He hit .435/.462/.478 with four RBI in seven games, while handling 69 chances error-free. He had three hits in their loss to Silver Medalist Guam and had their only hit in their semifinal loss to Joshua Jones and Gold Medalist Northern Mariana Islands. He led the team in hits (3 ahead of Herman Alfonso), RBI, average (.155 ahead of Alfonso), OBP (.077 ahead of Rodrick Blanco) and slugging (.078 ahead of Blanco). For the Games, he was third in average (behind Rico Castro and Daniel Va'a), tied Jesus Iguel for third in OBP, 6th in slugging (between Brieuc Mallet and Pemerika Mahuka), tied Iguel and Castro for the most hits (10), tied Jim Reyes and Mallet for 3rd with 11 total bases and was second in most total chances without an error (behind Manuel Sablan Jr. Palau won Bronze.
