Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Mel Queen spent nearly a decade in the New York Yankees organization, having several cups of coffee with the big league club in the years around World War II. He was sold to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1947. In 1949, he led the American Association in wins (22), strikeouts, and ERA while playing for the Indianapolis Indians. Two years later, in 1951, Queen had his best big league season, going 7-9 with 123 strikeouts for the Pirates.
Queen was the father of pitcher, coach, and manager Mel Queen.
