Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Jack Kranick had only seven games of experience at AA or higher when he made his major league debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates on June 27, 2021, facing the St. Louis Cardinals. The limited professional experience did not phaze him, as he pitched five perfect innings, retiring all 15 batters he faced while striking out three, and received credit for the 7-2 win. He was unable to go further as a rain delay of over an hour forced him to sit down, and out of prudence the Bucs summoned Duane Underwood Jr. to take over on the mound when play resumed. A lead-off double in the 7th ended the bid for a combined no-hitter of perfect game. He benefitted from some good offensive support, as he batted in the 1st inning before he even took the mound, something that had only happened to Paul Maholm in franchise history, back in 2005. In spite of his heroics, he was sent down to the minors a couple of days later.
