Biographical Information[edit]
Mauro Zarate, not to be confused with the soccer player of the same name, played four games for the Florida Marlins in 2007. He was one year older than teammate Hanley Ramirez.
Mauro was born in Valencia, Venezuela, the birthplace of more than 30 major leaguers. While pitching in Venezuelan winter ball, he entered pro ball in the USA at age 21, and pitched for nearly four full seasons before getting his chance at the big leagues. During 2007, he was at the A+, AA and AAA levels, pitching quite well at all of them with a combined ERA of 2.10. The following year, his last in the USA, his ERA was 3.03. He then pitched for several seasons in Venezuela.
