Biographical Information

Before the 1949 season Maurice Fisher was signed by the Cincinnati Reds as an amateur free agent. Maury was a 6' 5" righthander from Cincinnati, OH who turned down a scholarship to the University of Kentucky to sign with his hometown Reds.

On September 6th that summer, Maury threw a no-hitter for the Muncie Reds of the Ohio-Indiana League beating the Richmond Tigers, 6-0. But his progress got set back when he lost the sight in an eye in an off-the-field accident.

He pitched in the minor leagues during the early 1950s, winning 16 games for the Columbia Reds of the South Atlantic League in 1953. He made the Reds mound staff out of spring training in 1955 and made it into his only big league game on April 16th, in a two-inning relief role against the Milwaukee Braves.

Fisher spent eight years in the minors from 1949 through 1956, not quite living up to his potential after the eye accident.

A tool and die designer for General Motors before retiring in 1988, Maury lives in Fredericktown, OH where he has operated his own tool and die design business.
