Biographical Information[edit]

Matt Righter pitched as high as AAA then became a college coach.

He was All-Conference in both baseball and basketball at Johns Hopkins. [1] The Detroit Tigers took him in the 21st round of the 2004 amateur draft. He split the summer between the GCL Tigers (1 R in 2 1/3 IP), Oneonta Tigers (0-1, 4.43 in 14 G) and West Michigan Whitecaps (0 R in 6 IP). In '05, he went 4-1 with a 3.14 ERA for West Michigan. Demoted to the GCL Tigers in 2006, he posted a 4-1, 2.47 record. He was 8th in the Gulf Coast League in ERA, between Dionis Rodriguez and Jeanmar Gomez. [2]

Righter split 2007 between the Lakeland Flying Tigers (3-2, 6.14 in 17 G) and Erie SeaWolves (3-4, 4.80 in 19 G). In '08, he was with Erie (1-1, 5.51 in 16 G) and the Toledo Mud Hens (2 R in 2 2/3 IP in his lone taste of AAA). Let go by Detroit, he was 2-2 with a 7.31 ERA in nine games for the Grand Prairie AirHogs. Remaining in the indy leagues, he went 1-3 with a 2.66 ERA for the 2009 Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.

The Pennsylvanian then returned to Johns Hopkins as assistant baseball and basketball coach; they went to the 2010 Division III College World Series. [3] He became head coach at SUNY-New Paltz, a role he held from 2013-2016. He then guided Vassar College from 2017-2023 before moving to Stevenson University for 2024. [4]
