Biographical Information

Relief pitcher Matt Ramsey began his professional career in 2012 after being taken by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 19th round of the 2012 amateur draft. The scout was Milt Hill. He was originally drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 46th round of the 2008 amateur draft, a few picks after pitcher Giovanni Soto, but he did not sign. Prior to being drafted, he had undergone Tommy John surgery.

He was 2-1 with a 1.98 ERA in 13 2/3 innings for the GCL Rays in 2012. In 2013, he was 1-2 with a 2.84 ERA and a 10.3 K/9 IP ratio in 50 2/3 innings between the Bowling Green Hot Rods and Charlotte Stone Crabs. With the Salt River Rafters in that year's Arizona Fall League, he had a 2.08 ERA in eight games. He began 2014 with the Montgomery Biscuits, but was traded to the Miami Marlins partway through the season in exchange for three international bonus slots. He finished the campaign with the Jacksonville Suns and went 3-2 with 14 saves, a 1.47 ERA and an 11.7 K/9 IP ratio between the teams. With the Dominican Aguilas Cibaenas that winter, he had a 3.86 ERA in 12 games. Back issues forced him to miss all of 2015.

Ramsey made his major league debut with the Los Angeles Angels early in the 2019 season. The Angels had signed him as a minor league free agent the previous December. However, he pitched just one game before being sent down to the minors again and was released in July.
