Biographical Information[edit]

Matt Maloney has played and managed in the independent leagues.

He began his career as an outfielder for the San Diego Surf Dawgs in the Golden Baseball League in 2006, where he hit a solid .324 in 50 games with 7 homers. In 2007, he hit .309 in 56 games with the Brockton Rox of the Can-Am Association, then split the 2008 season between Brockton and the Lincoln Saltdogs of the American Association, hitting a combined .264 but with 12 homers in 54 games. Back with Lincoln at the start of 2009, he hit only .215 in 33 games, was released, but found another home with the Kalamazoo Kings of the Frontier League, where he hit .333 in 12 games. In 2010, he was back with Kalamazoo as a player-coach and hit .261 with 9 homers in 63 games. However, the club struggled badly on the field under manager Jamie Keefe, and on July 1st he was named interim manager with the club in last place with a woeful 7-31 record. Things went slightly better after he took over as player-manager, as the Kings went 21-37 the rest of the way, but they still finished last. Kalamazoo did not return to play the next season and Maloney retired from the game.

He is not to be confused with a contemporary pitcher also named Matt Maloney.
