Biographical Information

Outfielder Matt Kutler began his collegiate career by hitting .326 and slugging .491 as a freshman. His 15 doubles were among the leaders in the Ivy League. The next year (2002), Matt led the league in triples (9) and batted .358 with a .586 slugging percentage. He made the All-Conference team. In his junior year, he was again an All-Conference pick and led the circuit in hits (66) and RBI (44). He batted .369 and slugged .531. After missing 2004, Kutler had his third All-Conference nod in 2005 after a .427 year in which he slugged .678. He led the league in average, slugging, runs (43, tied for the most) and hits (73). He tied for 4th with eight home runs and was second with 41 RBI. He was named the Ivy League's Player of the Year. Selected in the 24th round of the 2005 amateur draft by the Florida Marlins, he made his professional debut with the GCL Marlins and hit .337/.389/.438. Promoted to A ball, he put up a .448/.448/.759 line in 8 games for the Jamestown Jammers. Kutler was 4th in the Gulf Coast League in batting average and made the league's All-Star team.

Kutler opened the 2006 season with the Greensboro Grasshoppers and batted .283/.326/.361 in 67 games. In 41 games in the outfield, he was error-free.
