Biographical Information[edit]
Matt Erickson hit .455/.478/.591 for Team USA in the 2001 Baseball World Cup, splitting shortstop duties with Zach Sorensen. He fielded .870 and Hirokazu Ibata made the All-Star team instead.
The Milwaukee Brewers drafted Erickson in the 57th round of the 1994 Amateur Draft from Appleton West High School but he chose to attend the University of Arkansas instead. Three years later the Florida Marlins drafted him in the 7th round and he played in their minor league system from 1997-2003. The Marlins released Erickson after the 2003 season and the Brewers signed him as a free agent. Erickson reached the major leagues with the Brewers in 2004 where he went 1 for 6 (.167) in four games. He returned to the minors and finished his playing career in 2007 in the Arizona Diamondbacks chain.
In 2009 the Brewers hired Erickson to serve as the hitting coach for his hometown Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. He returned as hitting coach in 2010 before being promoted to manager in 2011. After the 2021 season Erickson also managed the Salt River Rafters in the Arizona Fall League. In 2022, he was named a major league coach for the first time as Assistant Hitting Coach and Infield Coach for the Milwaukee Brewers. Erickson's role shifted again in 2023 when he served in the dual capacity of major league infield coach and minor league roving infield instructor.
