Biographical Information[edit]

Matt Coburn pitched in the independent leagues.

Collegiate[edit]

The Los Angeles Dodgers took Coburn in the 27th round of the 2005 amateur draft out of high school, but he did not sign. He was 3-1 with 3 saves and a 3.64 ERA as a freshman at San Jacinto Junior College.

The Milwaukee Brewers took him in the 47th round of the 2006 amateur draft; again, he went unsigned. He was 2-2 with six saves and a 1.64 ERA as a sophomore in 2007. In 2008, he transferred to Texas Christian University and tossed three shutout innings.

Minors[edit]

In 2009, Coburn was 3-1 with a 2.45 ERA for the Bay Area Toros. In 33 innings, he allowed only 21 hits and whiffed 43 but walked 20.

The Normal CornBelters signed Matt on May 16, 2010. Matt first appeared for the CornBelters on May 22nd out of the bullpen against the Evansville Otters at Bosse Field in Evansville, IN. He gave up 2 hits, while getting no outs. On August 28th, Coburn made his first start of the season against the Otters. He took the loss, giving up 5 hits, 4 runs, and 3 walks while striking out three over 5.2 innings. Matt finished the 2010 season with an 0-2 record and 6.47 ERA. He struck out 33 and walked 25 over over 40.1 innings.
