Biographical Information[edit]
Matt Arnold was appointed General Manager of the Milwaukee Brewers in November 2020, replacing David Stearns, who had hired him from the Tampa Bay Rays organization in October 2015. He served as Stearns' roght-hand man with the title of Assistant General Manager. Following the 2022 season, Stearns stepped down as President of Baseball Operations with the Brewers and Arnold succeeded him with the title of Senior Vice-President. Stearns left shortly afterwards to take on a senior position with the New York Mets.
He was named the major league Executive of the Year after the 2024 season, when the Brewers won the NL Central title. This happened in spite of the Brewers' decision to trade ace pitcher Corbin Burnes and to allow long-time manager Craig Counsell to take over as skipper of the rival Chicago Cubs. He decided to replace Counsell with coach Pat Murphy, a move that worked very well.
Prior to working for the Brewers, he spent nearly five seasons with the Cincinnati Reds, from 2003 to 2006, and nine seasons with the Rays, from 2007 to 2015. His also worked briefly with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2000 and the Texas Rangers in 2002.
